Critical Failure!

E M E R G E N C Y, user death imminent.

My laptop ended up dying in the middle of a few projects. Those and a few others before of course weren't backed up. I can't afford that shit...

Hope the techies can salvage my stuff and make my comp look all nice and new. Blowjobs for them if they do. Perfect timing for this to happen. Semester's about up and I've got a bunch to do.

I need a tower to work on that's time machined or something. Quick, money genie, I need a few thousand dollars!

In Progress, Lord Green?

Decided to revive some unfinished work and prep it for another possible print job. Lookin' towards Lord Green's direction for this one. They came by and enjoyed a heavy Thankstaking with everyone still lurking in Duluth. Ryan and I prepared a meal to satisfy any indulger.

Forgot to mention there are a few photos of the Glensheen Luxury Experience posters. Click the photo to get to the flickr!

Look for an online store just in time for the holidays!

DudeLife Winter Tour '09–'10

This 12"x20" monstrostiality is going to be on Poptone Black French Paper and the first to come out of my new home base—ment. Expect an edition of 50 or so 90% of which will be going on tour with the bands. I will have VERY FEW of these myself so go to one of their shows or contact them if you're interested in a print. Otherwise, I might have one or two.

High Life and Dude Nukem will be on tour next month so check them out if they're in town. Dates on the poster and on their myspace pages. Don't let the fleshless flesh eaters bite.

Beautiful

You know, aside from the books themselves, there's always some unexpected things to find while working in the library. In this photo for example, not only is there a letterform created by the environment, but the book in particular has such a great quote by Arthur Koestler to go along with it!

2009: A Beer Odyssey Artwork

Done.

This thing is going to be huge. 12" x 32" on Black Licorice Pop-Tone French Paper. For my first print with my first studio/workspace in my basement this is quite ambitious, eh? Not to mention awesome. I'll be printing up until Friday some time most likely, but it needs to get done as quickly as possible. Wish me luck!

I expect a split edition of 75 or so total, with some having no "Mountain Creek" logo on it. However, some will get made as the event is sponsored by Mountain Creek's Minhas Craft Brewery. I just enjoy the more monolithic feel of a silhouetted can. This thing's like some kind of super poster made up of a couple rad possible posters. Can't wait to see it as a whole at actual size. It's hard to really grasp what it will look like when it's cut off by my monitor. There's so much going on.

The poster and the printing process will prolly be up after the weekend. I'll also let you know how everything went and if there are some extra posters!

For posterity's sake many beers will be drank Saturday at 2009: A Beer Odyssey. Contact someone to join us in the middle of outerspace, Wisconsin.

Plenty of beer.

Early Peek at 2009 Poster

A sneak of the 2009: A Beer Odyssey print that's in the works. After a bunch of bullshit delays I'm slowly pushing out the artwork. I need to take a nap. I'll try and be done with it tomorrow morning. Printing in time is going to be hell.

The Office

Hey, been pretty busy, but I've got everything almost set up for printing. Following the image's link will bring you to the set of photos I've recently put on Flickr (my first too). The first job will be the 2009: A Beer Odyssey poster. Images for the process and the poster itself will be up as soon as I work on it.

Check out 2009: A Beer Odyssey if you're interested. Contact someone soon. It should be great!

Oil Paint

Also,

I saw Skoal Kodiak at Heliotrope. One of the best shows ever. Unfortunately, no good photos. Check them out!

The bands were great at Heliotrope. Moonstone and Vampire Hands both had outstanding sets. It seemed something was up with Knife World, but they're still one of my favorites. I hope to hear more from them now that there's a bassist.

Josh Journey-Heinz + Jacob Stoltz produced a great poster for this years Heliotrope.

The Return of the 'Saurs - "Pizza Warz"

Here's an incompleted drawing that was turned into a flier for a recent joint themed birthday party for me and Maygun. This should make it to a screen print along with a series of supportive work. I'll spend the next year drawing dinos and other cool things.

The dinosaurs were relocated 65.5 million years ago by a space faring race when the Earth suffered an asteroid impact. While Earth's habitability returned for the now ruling hominids, the dinosaurs have had plenty of time to advance their own kind under the protection of their saviors, the Anodytes. A recent survey of the human planet by those outside our scope attracted the attention of a group of vicious mechanical beings that inhabit space. A long time enemy of many galactic peace keeping forces, the protectors of the universe have taken action to keep us from extinction, or rather, extermination.

It is now the beginning of the Pizza Warz. Life on Earth has taken the brunt of conflict and the dinosaurs have come back from their original refuge planet Dinoxia. Stand your ground! We shall fight together, resist the encroaching forces of the Atropi, and experience space outside our star system.

Also, here's a photo of the print from the planetarium show that I did not put up yet.

R.I.P. Shoreview Skate Park

I'll spare you the visuals (I just need to carry around a camera more often) of the new park, but above is a poor video of a well-mannered frequenter Brian. A good kid and good to skate with.

Recently torn down and rebuilt. It used to be somewhat functional and the mini was pretty rockable. Now it is less functional overall. Smaller, compact, spread out, and impractical. Even after the fact that they wasted time and money rebuilding worse ramps, they chose to keep the old uneven paved blacktop. Which is great, anyone who once called this their hometown mini (as I did) knows what it's like to be stranded in the middle of a lake for days after it rains. They just added unsightly patches to spots where old ramps were making the ground even more annoying to deal with. There is little room for development in a skater at this park. Unless you know next to nothing on how to ride, it's not worth touching these cutesy ramps. These new costly ramps do not properly introduce anyone to skateboarding that you couldn't find out in the streets and lots around town.

I was let down by the hype instilled in me by someone (the man with the camera in the video above) who had claimed had some leverage in the planning of the park. He made it sound like the preparations and steps were being taken necessary to improve the park. The outcome does not uphold this notion. I don't even think anyone who constructed this park has ever skated. Anyways, it was my own fault for not being involved with the city's planning. No one was around to stop this bullshit before it took off.

I hope all the young kids stuck in that area, limited to short ventures, find a new skate haven nearby.

I'm saddened, but also fortunate to have made a move up to Duluth recently. Here exists a mini ramp that is almost twice as large. It is also built the TrueRide way as the old Shoreview park was. It is also a worn park, particularly the blacktop and some kickers. No rails, but some boxes and a quarter to drop in from. This'll get me by for now. Especially with the occasional visit to the Superior park every once in a while.

I'll be posting soon enough with art and what I'm doing. I've been rather e-lazy or just plain busy. Maybe I'll get Tim H to upload some Baby Skateboard footage from the old Shoreview.

Space Jam UMD Planetarium Show!

Just finished a gig poster for an upcoming show here at UMD.

If you're in the area please come join us for an awesome show at the university's own planetarium! We'll enjoy a star show tuned to some excellent space rock. We encourage you to make a $5 donation. Bring a little extra money if you're interested in getting a copy of the poster. Let's hope for future shows like this and thanks to the bands making the trip from the cities to frigid Duluth.

Brothers Band

March 27th, 7 pm @ UMD's Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium
1049 University Drive, Duluth, MN 55812

Let me know if you'd like to buy a print of the poster.

Student Show Submission

It's been a long while since I've posted. Sorry. Very busy. I'll try and post some things I've collected over the next few days. Mostly some font stuff and what not. I had to take a break from doing portraits.

Anyways, I've been working on a part of a submission for the design of this upcoming year's student exhibition poster/brochure/postcard. I created my own type based on a 2 units wide by 3 units tall grid with circles and 45 degree angles.

You can see the previous designs and some of the student work here. I'll try to do another design for a better chance of being selected.

Be back soon.

Portraits - Mojo

A little bit'a Jamba Juice en'a frontside nosegrind.
